The TS-831X is equipped with an AnnapurnaLabs, an Amazon company Alpine AL-314 quad-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A15 processor with 4GB/8GB/16GB DDR3 RAM (upgradable to 16GB), SATA 6Gb/s, two 10GbE SFP+ LAN ports as well as Gigabit LAN ports, and an PCIe expansion slot for an additional Network Interface Card (NIC). The TS-831X's hardware-accelerated encryption engine provides unmatched encryption performance in its class with AES 256-bit full NAS volume encryption, boosting system performance & security while ensuring the safety of sensitive business data stored in the TS-831X.

QNAP's QM2 is a PCIe expansion card that features dual M.2 SSD slots and 10GbE connectivity* (individual cards may vary in functionality). This allows users to easily set up SSD caching to optimize NAS performance. 10GbE-compatible models can also future proof the TS-831X for use with 10GbE networks. Equipped with a dedicated cooling module, the QM2 can maintain its high performance even when tasked with the highest workloads.

Cross-platform file sharing, centralized data storage:

The TS-831X supports SMB/CIFS, NFS, and AFP protocols for file sharing across Windows®, Mac®, Linux®/UNIX® networks. Data, logs and ISO images of CDs and DVDs can be centrally stored on the TS-831X and protected by an integrated antivirus solution. The Windows AD® and LDAP services enable system administrators to configure user permissions by using an existing Windows AD server, LDAP server or built-in LDAP service. The TS-831X supports SAMBA v4 and can act as a Windows domain controller to manage privilege settings.

Well-rounded backup solutions to secure data:

QNAP NetBak Replicator supports real-time and scheduled data backup on Windows including Outlook® email archiving. Apple Time Machine® is also supported to provide Mac® OS X users with a solution to effortlessly back up data to the TS-831X. The USB 3.2 Gen 1 port on the front panel features a one-touch-copy function for you to instantly back up data from external drives to the TS-831X with just one click, or alternatively to back up data from the TS-831X to external drives. A wide range of third-party backup software such as Acronis® True Image and Symantec Backup Exec™ are also supported

In open network environments, business data may be exposed in a potential hack. The TS-831X provides numerous security options, such as encrypted access, IP blocking, 2-step verification, and more. IT administrators can also control the access rights of each user to different folders, preventing unauthorized access to important files. The TS-831X supports AES 256-bit encryption, preventing sensitive business data from unauthorized access and breach even if the hard drives or the entire system were stolen.

Secure access with VPN Server & VPN Client:

The TS-831X can be used as a VPN server with L2TP/IPsec, OpenVPN, and PPTP support, allowing you to securely access data shared within the private local network. It can also be used as a VPN Client to connect to other VPN servers (connecting multiple servers at the same time is possible) or virtual private network through for PPTP and OpenVPN for secure data transmission. You can connect your devices to your NAS and the VPN server at home to access data on the LAN; via VPN Client on your NAS, for example, you can connect to VPN servers in foreign countries for accessing regionally-restricted services.

Qsirch - A smarter, faster way to search:

The TS-831X supports Qsirch, a search tool for quick file searching. Qsirch supports thumbnail previews, and even remembers your search history allowing you to quickly navigate to files you've previously searched for. The revamped Qsirch 2.1 adds a Google Chrome Extension that allows you to search for files on your NAS when you use Google Search. Qsirch is a huge productivity boost that greatly reduces the time spent looking for files on the NAS, allowing you to focus on other tasks.

Energy-efficient:

The TS-831X utilizes an energy-efficient quad-core ARM® processor that features low voltage and low power consumption, maintaining high performance in system operations and suitable for an always-online business cloud without running up a high electricity bill. Additional energy-saving features include hard disk standby, scheduled power on/off, and Wake on LAN.
